super lotto results www.ronkat.net Wetlands are home to more types of wildlife than almost any other habitat, including animals as diverse as birds, mammals, insects and amphibians. Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust has nine Wetland Centres, which welcome nearly a million visitors a year.
Wetlands teem with biodiversity. They are part of our natural infrastructure, providing essential protection against climate change, floods, droughts and pollution. They are also vital for our health and wellbeing.
WWT is the UK's leading wetland conservation charity. It conserves, restores and creates wetlands, saving wetland wildlife and inspiring everyone to value the amazing things healthy wetlands achieve for people and nature. WWT was founded by conservationist and artist Sir Peter Scott in 1946 and today manages nine wetland reserves across England, Scotland and Wales. Large swathes of the charity's reserves are of international conservation importance and enjoy protective designations. WWT's vision is a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.
To ensure wetlands are put centre stage in the fight to meet global challenges, the charity's four ambitions are that:
- The UK has a bigger, better and more connected network of wetlands, with over 100,000 hectares of new and restored wetland habitats and the health of our existing wetlands is improving
- The majority of the public in the UK value and are significantly more connected to wetlands, with at least a million people directly taking action for wetlands where they live and work
- In the countries where WWT work around the world, where wetlands, wetland nature and peoples' livelihoods are threatened, WWT will deliver community-led and sustainable solutions, and ensure wetlands are more effectively valued and considered in local, regional and national decision making
- Key international decision-makers value wetlands and WWT will build a global community of highly skilled individuals creating and managing wetlands and mobilising wetland support
To achieve these ambitions, WWT runs a programme of conservation projects connecting communities to wetlands in the UK and beyond, creating and restoring essential wetland habitat for wildlife and people and campaigning for governments and the public to take action for wetlands. The charity's work also includes researching and monitoring the benefits of wetland habitats.
Across their centres, WWT brings adults and children closer to nature through learning and engagement activities, as well as enabling them to experience amazing wildlife spectacles. The charity broadens its reach by working with communities outside of its centres to help local people realise the tremendous health, wellbeing, social and economic benefits of their wetlands for themselves.
Sir David Attenborough said, "I have no doubt at all that connection with the natural world is crucial for our popular development. WWT's Wetland Centres are fantastic. They bring people and wildlife closer together than anywhere else that I can think of."
Sarah Fowler, Chief Executive of WWT, said, "Wetlands are some of the most valuable ecosystems on earth and the generous support of players of People's Postcode Lottery is essential to helping us magnify our impact and conserve these amazing habitats for wildlife and for people."
